About a Thriller

The Thriller category is mostly all considered as being fiction based.

A thriller film provides the audience with a sudden rush of emotions such as excitement and exhilaration. It keeps the audiences on the edge of their seats as it provides a lot of cliff hangers as the plot builds and thickens to a climax.

This is different to horror films as they seek out to bring the negative emotional side of people by playing on their utter most fears.  Horror films also include scenes that startle the viewer, with the theme of supernatural being one of the main themes.

Characteristics of a thriller film often include a small group of heroes or a lone protagonist facing up against a vastly superior enemy whilst meanwhile trying to overcome objectives that lie before them in order to do this. The heroes are often just ordinary people, this allowing the audience to feel sympathetic towards them because of what they are going through during the film.
The threat of death towards these characters is mostly always present and quite usually plot twists are forever complicating the matter.

One of the main purposes of a thriller film is to keep the audience alert at all times.

Sub genres of thrillers can include:

Action Thriller e.g. stunts and races
Religion Thriller e.g. exorcisms
Science fiction thriller e.g. wide spread diseases
Crime Thriller e.g. serial killers and robbery

Action Thriller – Fast and Furious 6. This is because of tis stunts and car races.
Crime Thriller – Broadchurch

28 Days Later – Science Fiction Thriller. This is because it is to do with a wide spread disease over the city of London.
